어느덧 중반기에 접어든 벨벳은 루 리드와 함께 하는 4집이자 MGM과 계약하지 않은 스튜디오에서의 마지막 앨범 <Loaded>를 발표한다.

이 앨범은 영화 <Natural Born Killer>에 삽입됐던 카우보이 정키스의 리메이크로 알려진 'Sweet jane' 등이 빌보드 차트에 올라가며 희미하게나마 최초의 상업적인 빛을 본 앨범이기도 했지만, 불행히도 루 리드는 녹음 후 앨범이 발매되기도 전에 벨벳을 떠났다.

어쨌든 이 앨범으로 벨벳은 상업성의 가장자리에서 대중들의 관심을 불러모으는데 어느 정도는 성공했다.
